I went to Budapest expecting another pretty European capital. I left convinced it's the best value-for-money city in Europe, period. I stayed in a design hotel near the Danube for €70 a night, ate at restaurants that would cost triple in Vienna, soaked in 16th-century Turkish baths until 2am, and rode the funicular up to Buda Castle at sunset. Three days, one carry-on, total spend €420 per person including flights from Thessaloniki (often via Bucharest). This is how you do Budapest premium without spending like it.
