How I did it

Premium without the price tag.

Krakow is the closest thing I've found to time travel. The main square at dawn, empty, golden, every photo a magazine cover. I stayed in a 4-star hotel inside the old town for €55 a night, ate pierogi until I couldn't move for €6, day-tripped to the salt mines, and never paid more than €3 for a beer in a 700-year-old cellar bar. Three days, total €280 from Thessaloniki (often via Bucharest).

Highlights

  • 02Kazimierz district for dinner
  • 03Wieliczka Salt Mine day trip
  • 04Pierogi tasting at Pierogarnia Krakowiacy
  • 05Vodka tour in 14th-century cellars
