Prague survived two world wars unbombed, which is why it still looks like a movie set. The trick is timing: Charles Bridge at 6:30am is empty and magical; by 10am it's elbow-to-elbow. I stayed in Vinohrady (the cool residential district, 10 min from the center) at a 4-star for €75 a night. Czech pilsner at the brewery source: €1.80 a half-litre. Black-light theatre at Image Theatre is the strangest €20 you'll ever spend (in a good way). The Astronomical Clock show is a tourist trap, instead, climb the Old Town Hall tower next to it (€11) for the view. Three days, €430 from Thessaloniki (often via Bucharest). Prague is still one of Europe's best deals.
